Govern-mental: Nintendo vs Piracy/Terrosism
|
Here's an intersting read found at EGM.com
www.gamers.com/news/1317238 In a nutshell this article basically talks about how 'on the ball' the US government really is. In case you couldn't get the article here's just a sample of the article that I found most interesting: Quote: Quote: Boy how bad is the US government that they need to be told what to do by Nintendo? I understand that Nintendo's only asking the gov't for assistance in the war against piracy but as we see now, Nintendo's going to help the US in the war on terrorism! Is it just me or does anyone else find it strange that Nintendo found this out before the US government did? The people who claim that they will begin cracking down on all terrorist activities are getting info from a company who only wants help in the piracy war. Makes you wonder doesn't it? It sure as hell makes me wonder about a lot of things. Like for instance: This terrorist group is funded by piracy, what else kind of independantly manufactured goods that we use every day are being used to support terrorism? Or how the US government couldn't be bothered to take action on illegal copyrighted product production and uncover the truth themselves? The one that bugs me the most is weither or not something like this is true or not. Is Nintendo claimming to have found terrorist ties so that the US government will assist them even though its untrue, and if so: are they doing this because they beleive the government will go into almost everything so long as it gives them a chance to flex their military muscle? I don't know weither the rummor is true or not, im not going to like this but im just going to have to assume that Nintendo is telling the truth. Who knows what's really going on in the world of piracy, it's a large business so Im guessing it needs to have some pretty major ties to stay afloat. What I do know is that it must be pretty embarassing for the government to have a video game company uncover a major terrorist group and not their CIA. Kind of makes all these extreme security practices at the airport and borders seem really insuffiecient. While we're taking off our shoes when our belt buckles trip the censor, major illegal piracy operations wich are funding terrorist groups are being uncovered by companies not affilated with national security. Still feel pretty safe? So what's the government to do? If the US government aids Nintendo they're pratically admitting to the people that they haven't been doing their best at stopping terrorist organizations. And if they don't help they would going against their promise to do all they can to keep the world safe from harm. Sigh... remember when George W Bush was considered as an idiot? Then after September 11th he became Mr. Smart guy by bringing all these promises to end terror around the world? Then after he... no im sorry... the northern alliance of Afghanistan threw out the Taliban Bush high-tailed it out of there (Without offering to help fix up the war torn country) and began looking for someone elses ass to kick? Personally I think George W Bush is less worried about terrorism than he was the day he came into office. If they were truely going to end terrorism they'd have found out about that piracy/Terrorism ring first. Not Nintendo. Let me ask you this: Since Bush has been in office, has he done anything to fix the American economy? Something he promised to do in his election? I thought not. Having Nintendo uncover the truth about an already illegal business is more than enough proof in showing where the attention of both George W Bush and the US government really lies. After all, the War on Terror distracted people from realizing Bush was the same election-stealing, silver-spoon moron he was on September 10th, so why not keep it going? And don't start giving me this 'Slim's an anti-American!' nonsense. I want terrorism to stop too. This is our (Canadians) battle as much as America's. And so far, I'm proud of America's restraint and methods in fighting it. We have the right to express our concerns and address the nature of our support, but we have no choice but to offer that support, and wholeheartedly. Stats all folks: You can't spell analyst without anal
|
Read these stats by business analysts that I found on Planetgamecube.com
www.planetgamecube.com/news.cfm?action=item&id=4000 In a nutshell, the report spiews the same news we've been hearing forever now: How the Ps2 definetly won the 2002 market while the remainning percentage was divided equally among Xbox and GC. While Nintendo holds the lead in profability compaired to Xbox and Ps2, the report suggest that Nintendo will loose ground in 2003. Xbox, which is behind GC by one percent will dominate over it with it's strong software lineup and established online support. Furthermore the report suggests that Nintendo CAN shake this and grow into the 12 billion dollar sales record in 2003 only if they abandon the console market and go third party like Sega. Can you believe this? This report comes from the same people who said that Dreamcast would dominate the industry, that the Playstation wouldn't stand a chance agains the N64 and that the Xbox wouldn't last 6 months in the industry. So who are we to believe? Hey great, they got evidence to back up their case this time but like most usable evidence, it only highlights what the targets don't want to hear. Notice how the report didn't mention the GBA and Nintendo's stranglehold on the handheld market, that the report focuses on sales rather than profability and that GC has already outsold the N64 meaning they'll be comming back in the next console battle. Of course I don't want to have this focus on Nintendo and the GameCube. Reports such as this one pop up all the time and they usually say the same things. How a certain console took a hit and will most likely have to abandon hardware manufacturing all together. Someone really needs to give whoever is in charge of making these stats and reports a big slap in the face. You know who these analysist are? They're the same people who write whose dating whom in the super market tabloids. They have no valid information and they don't look at something as a whole. All they see is a little scuff mark on the polish and over hype it, litteraly turning a molehill into a mountain. Honestly, who cares anymore about how well your system is doing compaired to the other two? As long as games are still being made on it and people are buying those games you got nothing to worry about. And on the subject of what the future holds why relly on someone whose job it is to point out the mistakes of the past. What they say is not set in stone and they can't tell the future either. All of what they say are guesses with charts to back them up. I don't even see how reports such as this one can be used to the opposing forces advantage. What? The Xbox is going to loose the console war just because someone said it was going to happen? Sales charts do nothing, I've said it before and I'll say it again, the only thing the number of units sold tell you is how many units have been sold. Not to mention anyone can make a bogus report, all you need is a tiny pothole on a systems road to success and exploit it to the point where you give bragging rights to your cause. Most facts mean something, when it comes to the console market they mean nothing to me. Things can and do pick up and if they don't more often than not the cause has nothing to do with the early facts. As far as im concerned the sales, charts, facts, reports and analysists are just numbers and you can't argue in numbers, you argue in words. Am I going to change my gamming lifestyle all because of a piechart showcasing the hardware sales of each system for one month? Of course not. Im going to stick with the system that I think makes a better case, who can convince me to stick with it without trying to persuade me with numbers. Sure the person who argues with evidence has something to back up their cause, but who's the better arguer? The one who manages to get their point accross without resorting to the works of others or the one who uses the self-glorifying article of the past as a crutch? Im one to think that using facts to get your point accross means that you aren't confident enough in your belief. That's why I try not to get too carried away by analystic reports such as this one, or anyone for that matter. Because they deal too much on the negatives and don't provide good enough persuasion for me to believe in them. So don't get carried away if your system gets flack from a statistic from some business expert, it's their job to pick on the ones trying to make a difference. Just remember, as long as your happy with your systems performance than you don't need to care how well they're doing compaired to the competition... that's for the company to worry about. The new handheld on the Market: Gameboy Advanced SP
- By: Kevin Anderson A.K.A. Golden Angel (This isn't really an editorial, just my article....But go ahead, right an editorial about it!) Well, I think by now, weve all heard about the new GBA coming out, the Gameboy Advanced SP. It was announced by Nintendo in Les Vegas and its original name was going to be Gameboy Advanced, DX. SP actually stand for special. Many questions have arisen about how it will affect the gaming world. Will it be a big hit, or a total bomb? One of the biggest issues with the GBASP, is the size. When folded, it fits in the middle of the old GBA. It is the same height as the old GBA and almost the same thickness, but it seems the SP has been literally CUT IN HALF. Its width is the size of the GBA screen to make it more portable. Some people are complaining that it is TOO small. They say that they wont even be able to press the buttons. Despite its size, the Gameboy Advanced SP has many extraordinary features. The set open position is perfect for gaming. The unite opens almost exactly like a clamshell mobile phone. The screen is very similar if not the same as an LCD screen. The image quality is fair, but not quite as good a getting a direct ray of light from a desk lamp. This is why the systems front light comes in handy. It can be turned on and off as if it were a light switch. There is a slight blue tint in its illumination which does wash out a bit of detail and color on the GBASP screen but only ever so slightly. The GBASP unite does not feature a headphone jack, but Nintendo will release an adaptor which plugs into the second expansion port on the back of the system. The buttons on the SP are very thin, and clicky. The L and R buttons seem awkward and small, but they are surprisingly very easy to handle while playing. There are two LED lights on the front right of the control face. The top one is a power on indicator. The second is to show that the unit is being charged. It will glow orange while charging. The GBA SP has a built-in, rechargeable lithium battery thats not user swappable. If something goes wrong with the battery, players will have to send their unit to Nintendo for replacement. Something that might be quite annoying is the battery door is sealed shut with a tri-wing screw. Of course, everyone wants to know. Will the E-Reader work on the GBA SP? Well, Nintendo would be the laughing stock if it didnt! If you want proof, check out the pic. Thats it. Overall, the GBSP has amazing features and a fantastic design! All Gameboy and Gameboy Advanced games are accessible on it. I will be released, March 23, 2003 and cost 99.95. I here it will be available in two colors; Cobalt Blue (a metallic blue) and Platinum. Also, you HAVE TO keep your ears open for a solar-powered GBA accessory and 24 other groundbreaking products! Original Posted by GuardianGA on January 10, 2003 |
