Uhh...opening comments...uhh...not much to really say. So I'll get on with the review.
Story: 8/10
To be honest, it's something VERY similar to the transition from Mega Man to Mega Man X. How you never learned what happened to the original Mega Man, is basically the same on how the game starts, you don't know where X is, but it doesn't matter to the rest of the story! It's been 100 years since X and Zero last fought together, and since then, Zero's been missing, and now Zero's back on solo missions. It's basically stop this corrupt government from killing off innocent Reploids accused of being Mavericks. It's kinda like if you were the Mavericks in the X series and were fighting the Hunters. It actually gets more interesting towards the end...but I don't want to spoil it.
Graphics: 10/10
I think these have to be some of the greatest graphics I've ever seen on the GBA. Zero's got a new look, in fact, he looks more human then before. Like on X5 and 6, the cut scenes are images or just the sprites talking to each other. The cut scene images are beautifully done. And finishing enemies with the Z Saber lets you see neat animations of it cutting them in half! And the background and enemies look terrific, I can't complain if I was really uptight on graphics.
Sound & Music: 7/10
Meh, nothing outstanding in my opinion, though the bad guy theme was perfect. I can't argue with how just one song fit all of the "Guardians" or "Generals" that you must fight.
Soundwise, same old thing you'd here from a Mega Man game, though the buster at long last doesn't sound like someone spitting.
Gameplay: 9/10
There's a bunch of missions to complete, and some of them vary in objectives. Possibly the one I hated most had to be the disarm 12 bombs in 1 minute wahetevr seconds or you go up in one hell of a blast. There are some missions where you have to rescue reploids and then fight your way out, one mission is done preferably without being noticed, though you can attack from a distance without being noticed. And now I introduce the weakness system to Mega Man Zero, yes, EVERY Mega Man game has the boss have some kind of weakness, and this one does too. How? ELEMENTS! Throughout your battles, you will aquire 3 different element chips: Lightning, Fire, and Ice. EVERY boss has a weakness to one of them with the exception of 2 bosses. So I shouldn't say every I guess, but the majority do.
And a new feature comes to the game: Cyber-Elfs. Now, they are magical creatures that float around doing nothing...wait...yes they are! But you can raise them to harness their awesome powers (I guess, I never really did raise any), but using their powers comes at a cost: using them JUST ONCE costs them their lives, and they won't be able to be raised from the dead and use again. So use wisely.
Overall:8/10
Fun game, definitly worth a try. It can be difficult at times, and easy. At this point...I've become horribly lazy. Lazy like a cat. Sooooo...to sum it up, it's a Mega Man game not starring Mega Man. You maybe thinking, "Why'd they call it Mega Man Zero and not just Zero Something?". Meh, think what you want, it plays just the same...but with the weapon of choice being a sword. Or look over my review more carefully...and see what I didn't say...
So...that's it. Yep...that's it......WHY ARE YOU STILL READING?!
