Love Hina: Volume 1 - Manga Review (English)
Perhaps one of the funniest mangas I have ever read, the Love Hina series captures the realism, romance, and pervertedness of real-life teens. The Love Hina series of mangas will take the reader on a fun and interesting ride chronicling a boy and several girls' relationship with each other, and as the series progresses, the relationship evolves.
Keitaro Urashima, a 19 year old second-year ronin, has failed his Tokyo University entrance exam twice, thus shattering the promise he made to his girlfriend 15 years ago. Keitaro is kicked out of his house, and is forced to live with his grandmother in Hinata House. Unbeknownst to Keitaro, however, the Hinata House is more than just a temporary sleep-away.
Upon arriving at the Inn, Keitaro is not soon after encountered by its feisty and dangerous inhabitants. The residents' names are Naru Narusegawa, Mitsune Konno, Kaolla Su, Shinobu Maehara, Motoko Aoyama, and the housemother Haruka Urashima, Keitaro's aunt. Yes, they are all girls.
The girls do not accpet Keitaro at first, and threaten to kick him out, and even kill him. But Haruka insists he stays, for his grandmother has left Hinata House, granting full ownership to Keitaro.
It only gets more rowdy from here... Keitaro walks in on the girls while changing, going into their bath, and randomly messing stuff up... on accident. Yet poor Keitaro remains the victim of assault.
Because of all the violence present in Hinata House, Keitaro can barely study for next year's Tokyo U exams. Not only do the girls bother him with their antics, little Shinobu looks up to Keitaro as an idol, and he even lies about being a Tokyo U student. It only becomes more complicated from there.
Overall, this story is fairly easy to follow, and a very fun manga to read. Because of its highly prominent sexual content and language, Love Hina: Volume 1 is recommended for at least people 13 years and older.
I recommend this book to anyone interesting in comedy/romance mangas. It's well worth your time.
Without love, we are birds without wings.
